I hope you had a great weekend. It is hard to believe there is only one more week until spring break! Spring break will be from April 2nd to April 6th. If I’m not able to catch you before then, I hope you have a lovely week with your family!
This week in learning:
Reading: Students have been working hard at noticing and paying attention to literary language in their reading. Students are getting skilled at noticing comparisons, idioms, and alliteration. Later this week, students will pick an area of their reading to focus on and work in a group to improve. The areas of reading are fluency, comprehension and accuracy.
Writing: Students are enjoying our poetry unit. We have learned to write poems by seeing objects in new ways (a scissor is a shark etc), playing with line breaks, and thinking of big feelings. This week students will experiment by adding rhyme and repetition to their poems.
Math: We will finish up our last unit in multiplication this week. Students are learning their multiplication and division tables of 4, 5, and 10. In addition to knowing the math facts, students are practicing word problems for both multiplication and division. Our next unit will begin after spring break. Students will be studying adding, subtracting and counting money.
Science: Students will be wrapping up their pebbles, sand and silt unit by studying soil. Our next unit on insects and plants will begin after spring break.
