In writing we learned about audience when writing book recommendation letters. Audience means the reader that is reading you letter. The reader may not know or may know the book you are recommending. If the reader knows the book, you don’t have to introduce the book and you can talk right away about your favorite parts. If the reader doesn’t know the book, you will need to introduce the book and not give away the ending In reading we were trying to figure out the author’s purpose for the book Eleanor. An author’s purpose can be to persuade, Inform or entertain. We decided the purpose of Eleanor was to persuade because it tried to convince you about Eleanor’s tough childhood and the importance of people believing in you. Eleanor’s headmistress and her father believed in her. The book also informed us because it taught us that Eleanor had a tough childhood with small moments of happiness. In math for extra movement we are learning how to skip count. We are learning how to skip count by 2s, 3s, and 4s. In second grade we will learn how to skip count for every number 2-11. Skip counting can help us multiply and divide when we get to multiplication and division later this spring. Try practicing the songs at home using the pictures above In science we are trying to design an airplane that travels the farthest distance. This week we made the moth and the champ. We learned that bending the top airplane wings back helps give the airplane more lift. On Wednesday we saw the first grade play. It was about Beatrix Potter books. There were a lot of bunnies in the play. Some of the characters were a fierce bunny, sparrows, a mouse, Mr. McGregor, Mrs. McGregor. The play was funny because Mr. Bouncer chased the cat
