I hope this newsletter finds you well rested from the beautiful weekend. Please note there is not school this Friday, March 20th because of teacher development.
Report cards were sent home in your child's Monday folders. Please keep your copy of the report card and sign the envelope and return the envelope to me with your child's materials on Friday.
We have started an exiting new morning tradition called morning meeting. Our students wrote about the morning meeting in the week in review posted below. I have also attached a letter explaining the new morning routine. I encourage you to ask you child about a morning greeting and utilize the greeting process at home.
Reading: We will read biographies about Eleanor Roosevelt and Jackie Robinson. We are looking for character traits of people who fought for a cause and finding the author’s purpose in writing the biographies.
Writing: We are writing opinion letters recommending our favorite books. This week we will retell the most important parts of a book and consider our audience when writing a letter.
Math: Students will learn how to draw place value mats to subtract problems. Please see the video above to learn this week’s math strategies.
Science: Students are challenged to construct a paper airplane that flies the farthest distance. This week we are making designs, testing designs, and reading about the physics of paper airplanes.
