ScienceIn science we are challenged to make a paper airplane that flies the farthest distance. We made two paper airplanes this week. One was the arrow and one was the stealth. We found that the arrow flew further. This told us that skinny planes travel the farthest distance. We will make and test other plane designs this week and study more about how paper airplanes fly. Next week we will be challenged to design our own plane. Click the button below if you want to practice making airplanes at home. Morning MeetingWe started a new morning routine this week called morning meeting. In morning meeting there is a greeting where we say good morning to a person while looking them in the eye. For example, we might say, “Good morning Bob” and shake Bob’s hand. Then, we have a share where we can talk about our life outside of school. After that, we have an activity where we work together. This week each one of us was a word and we had to form a sentence with our words. An example would be, “The majestic whale jumped gracefully.” Also, on Friday, we went around the room and brainstormed ways we could best work with Kamala. After the activity we have a morning message. Ms. Libby write us a letter and tells us something about the learning day. Math In math we are learning how to add when have to make a new ten with ten ones or subtract when we have take a ten and exchange it for ten ones. The strategy we are now learning is to draw a place value mat and draw dots that we call chips. WritingIn writing we are writing opinion letters recommending our favorite books. When we write a letter we can talk about our favorite character, our favorite parts and what we can learn by looking at the pictures. We will send first set of letters at the end of this week. ReadingIn reading we are learning about Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor Roosevelt was a First Lady of the United States. She helped many people during the Great Depression, a time when many people lost their jobs and didn’t have enough food. We are reading a book about her childhood. She had a hard childhood because her mother and brother died when she was young. We are studying how Eleanor’s childhood may have influenced her as an adult.
