Writing Like a ScientistIn science we are learning how to write like scientists. Our experiments will be the science fair project for our science fair board. There are five steps to write like a scientist. The first step is to ask a question. The next step is to make a hypothesis. Then you write your materials and procedures. After your procedures you experiment with 3 trails. Lastly, you write your results. Writing like a scientist is fun because you can experiment with things. Below is a picture of a complete science fair report. Quilts of the Underground RailroadIn reading we are studying how slaves escaped from the south to the north using the Underground Railroad. The railroad is not a railroad and is it not underground. Instead, it is path to freedom for slaves that includes places to hide and people who help with food. We are reading a book called the Patchwork Path that is about a girl. The girl’s mother left her a quilt with a secret message of how to escape using the Underground Railroad. Making a Friendly Ten or "Compensation"In math we are learning how to add to make friendly tens. We can take numbers to make a friendly ten in adding. In subtracting, we can add to both sides to make a friendly ten. Poetry BooksIn art we are making stick books. This we stenciled gold paint on the books this week. We will use the books to publish our poetry in this spring.
