On Wednesday we had the science fair. The chairs and desks were in a big circle. Our science fair boards were stably placed on our desks. When the classes came in it was loud because there were a lot of people taking about the science fair experiments. Overall, it was a fun time. In art we drew pictures and we made books with Chinese words in it. The most fun part about making the books was that we got to paint and using the spongy stencils. The hardest part was putting the book together. This was hard because we had to twist the rubber band around the stick. We have been reading about Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, slavery and the Underground Railroad. We read two stories about people escaping through the Underground Railroad. People escaped by hiding in homes and escaping across water and traveling to the north at night. We were to challenged to make our own quilts showing what a symbol used the to help people escape. Some of us designed our own quilt code and some of us used original quilt codes. For example, some of us made the bear’s paw an original quilt code meaning follow the bear’s path to water and food. One of us designed a new quilt code called the blue back widow. It means to stand up for yourself. In math we are learning how to add by making new groups of ten. We started off using discs then we learned how to do this with drawing. Next week, we will be learning how to add by making new tens in the hundreds.
